December provided its usual festive feast, serving up six gameweeks and a chance to pick up some big points. To do so teams needed to negotiate the ever unpredictable player rotations that are a feature of this congested period, with Wimborne Town FC Women once again managing to stay on top. Two midfield transfers in Gameweek 17 and a return to their favoured 1-3-4-3 saw a remarkably even spread of points around the team. Over the month approximately 29% of their points were earned by the goalkeeper and defenders, 36% by the midfield and 35% by their forwards. Despite this, it was the use of their Free Hit in Gameweek 18 that proved decisive, allowing them to gain 30 points more than Phoenix Youth FC U10’s in that round of fixtures and pip them to the post.

Wimborne Town FC Women are a newly established team for the 2019/20 season, competing in the Dorset Women’s League. They pride themselves on their core values of unity, togetherness and enjoyment, boasting a squad that ranges in age from 17 to 48 and includes players who are brand new to the game as well as some experienced heads who’ve played at a higher level. In December they only played one league fixture before taking part in the first FA Futsal Cup competition run in the county for adult female players. With only one team progressing from this qualifier to the regional stage and four of the top five teams from the Dorset Women’s League competing, it was always going to be tight. Despite not winning the event, Wimborne Town FC Women put on some superb displays and showcased their skills in this alternative format.

Wimborne Town FC Women train on Thursdays at Queen Elizabeth’s School, from 7pm - 8:30pm and are always keen to welcome new faces. If you would like to get in touch then please contact them at wimbornetownladies@outlook.com.
