Specsavers Youth Cup Finals Round Up
SPECSAVERS DORSET COUNTY YOUTH CUP FINALS
For the 2018-19 season we were pleased to have Specsavers as the main sponsors of our Youth Cup Finals. Committing their support to grassroots football in Dorset were the Specsavers stores from Blandford, Boscombe, Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole, Weymouth and Winton.
Across the seven age groups there was a total of 268 youth teams that took part in the competition. The 1st rounds starting way back in October with teams competing to make their way to the finals.
The Finals were held over two days on Sunday 28th April and Sunday 5th May at the Specsavers County Ground in Hamworthy, the home of the Dorset County Football Association.
Specsavers Dorset Under 10 Final
Longfleet Youth (Lions) 7 vs Wimborne Town 0
(K.Joyce, H. Excell, J. Wilson, A. Turner, N. Davis, J.Wilson, A. Speller)
Kellon Joyce and Harry Excell put Longfleet two ahead before half time to put the young Lions in control at the break.
Further goals from Jake Wilson, Alfie Turner, Nathan Davis, Jake Wilson and Alfie Speller completed the scoring in the second half. To their credit the young Magpies team kept playing their passing game only to be beaten by a very good Longfleet team on the day. Wimborne Town’s star player was Kurtis Davis.
Specsavers Dorset Under 11 Final
Poole Town FC Wessex (Rovers) 1 vs Weymouth Cougars (Sports) 0

In a very closely contested match, a second half goal from Kane Bennett secured the Cup for the young dolphins
Specsavers Dorset Under 12 Final
Longfleet Youth (Cubs) 2 vs Weymouth 2 aet (Weymouth won 3-2 penalties)

Longfleet Youth took the lead in the first half through Riad Chine before a brace from Harry Summers but the Terras in front. However a late goal from Jonathan Monga made sue the match went to extra time. Neither team could gain the advantage in extra time. Weymouth then ran out 3-2 winners on penalties. Neither team deserved to lose.
Specsavers Dorset Under 13 Final
Dorchester Town Youth (Raiders) 6 vs Merley Cobham Sports 0
(T Kelly 3, J Bartlam, B Dean, L Toms)
A fantastic hat trick from Toby Kelly helped to secure the Specsavers U13 County Cup for the Magpies, the third successive season the team has won a County Cup Competition.
Jacob Bartlam put Dorchester Town ahead on 13 minutes, twelve minutes later Billy Dean with the help of a ricochet off of a defender doubled the score before the break. Toby Kelly then hit three goals in twenty minutes to give the Magpies an unassailable lead, the first of which was an unstoppable shot just inside the penalty area after some neat team football on the left flank. In the closing minutes Lewis Toms scored direct from a corner kick to complete the scoring.
Despite the score both teams played some fantastic football, Mathew Ford in the Merley goal, Rio Oliver-House, Jaden Sawyer and Tristan Green all had good games for Merley Cobham Sports.
Specsavers Dorset Under 14 Final
Portland United Youth (Sports) 4 vs Poole Town FC Wessex 1

Portland United Youth Sports started the match in convincing style testing Poole Town FC Wessex’ resilience from kick off Jack Allgood produced a fine double save after five minutes to prevent the young Blues taking the lead before Hayden Scott scored after twelve minutes to give Portland the lead.
However five minutes later Dan Griffiths equalised for Poole Town FC Wessex to put them back in the match.
After half time Charlie Rowe had an easy tap in after a Brinley Doyle shot had thudded back off of the foot of the post, before further goal from Harvey Knott and Brinley Doyle secure the Trophy for the young Blues.
Specsavers Dorset Under 15 Final
Weymouth 1 vs Poole Town FC Wessex 2

Finn Davies put the young Terra’s ahead after only 7 minutes but Poole Town almost equalised a minute later only to see Terra’s keeper Connor Stickland pull off a fine save and then seen the follow up hit the foot of the post.
On 19 minutes Henry Birtwhistle prevented Weymouth from doubling their lead and immediately set up a Poole Town counter attack which eventually reached the lively Frankie Castello-MacPherson who ran through to put the Dolphins on level terms. Twelve minutes later Castello-MacPherson added a second for Poole Town, this time finding himself in space before rounding keeper Stickland and neatly finding the back of the net.
Poole dominated possession in the third quarter of the match, Castello-MacPherson almost completed his hat trick, however in the last fifteen minutes Weymouth fought hard for an equaliser, but the well drilled Poole defence held firm to win the Trophy that Weymouth had denied them twelve months earlier.
Specsavers Dorset Under 16 Final
Dorchester Town Youth (Dynamos) 3 vs Weymouth 1

Dorchester Town Youth Dynamos eventually ran out convincing winner in this junior Ridgeway derby however it was Weymouth who had the better of the early in the match, Dorchester Dynamos were saved by the bar in the seventeenth minute then Archie Woolford beat four players running through the middle before eventually being dispossessed in the penalty area before getting his shot away. Just before the break Charlie Gosney almost put the Magpies ahead with a diving header only to see Archie Kershaw pull off a fine save to keep the scores level at the break. Josh Leake put Dynamos in front after the break, running on to a long throw down the touchline before beating Kershaw in the Weymouth goal. Three minutes later Weymouth almost equalised, Charlie Mussendon hitting the foot of the post.
With twenty minutes remaining Gosney broke down the left and delivered a perfect pass for Tre Hansford who fired a tremendous shot into the back of the net to make it 2-0. Two minutes later it was Gosney himself who found the back of the net to add to the Magpies score. With four minutes left Tyler Hough pulled a goal back for the young Terras but too late to have an impact on the result of the match.
