FA Boys Development Centre

The Licensed Boys Development Centre run by the Dorset County Football Association is licensed to operate by the Football Association. As only one of a handful of Counties, without a professional Premier League or Football League Club within its 'football' borders, we have been granted a License to run an Independent FA Development Centre for Under 12 to Under 15 age groups. As such this is the highest level that boys in these age groups can play within the County!

The Centre started in 2008, initially running only an Under 15 side (2008), to develop players for our County Representative side at Under 16. In 2009 this side was complemented by commencing an Under 14 age group also.

Owing to the success in developing players to progress onto professional set ups, and also feedback from players, coaches and local Clubs, in enhancing their provision, the decision was taken by the DCFA Development Committee to expand further age groups, to ensure a comprehensive player pathway for male players within the County. So for Season 2010/11 the following age groups were run - Under 10, Under 12, Under 14 and Under 15. Culminating in 2011/12 being able to offer all year groups between these age bandings.

This gifted and talented pathway continued for 2012/13; with the Under 10 and 11 age groups looked after via the FA Skills Team through The FA Skills Extra programme, whilst Under 12 to Under 15 age groups remain within the FA Development Centre structure.

The trial process is always keenly contested and we would like to express our thanks for everyone that attended; and say congratulations to those awarded a place within the initial Development Centre squads. This compliments the retain and release of all players within the Centre.

Every age group train every week under the tutelage of highly qualified, highly experienced coaches. There are also matches against other ‘elite’ Academy and Development Centre programmes. This provides the players selected for the Centre the opportunity to play with and against other talented players, in order to improve both their skills, techniques and game craft.

The Football Association determines the criteria regarding the standards of organisation, facilities and personnel. These strict criteria must be met prior to a Centre being awarded a Licence to operate. The Football Association monitor the Centres by way of visits and consultations, to ensure that standards are continually met and surpassed!

The Centre draws on the skills and experience of a variety of people, the coaching, medical, welfare and administrative staff. It is not only committed to the development of the players, but to the development of its staff, to ensure that you are given the best opportunity, in the right environment to have fun, learn and develop and achieve the best you can be.
