FA Futsal Youth Cup Northern Qualifier Round Update

Dorset’s qualifying competition for this season’s FA Youth Futsal Cup began in earnest on Saturday (2 Nov), with events running for both the Under 10 and Under 12 Boys’ categories at Leweston School in North Dorset.

Opening the day were the Under 10’s, with four teams taking part and looking to progress to the county final in December. While there were some excellent displays by all of the teams, one of the most pleasing aspects was how many of these teams were taking their first steps into futsal. Congratulations go to Wimborne & Holt and Greywood YFC who will take part in the county final at Bryanston School in December.

In the afternoon it was the turn of the Under 12’s, with several of the five teams returning after taking part in last year’s competition. The speed of play, as well as some of the combination play on show, demonstrated futsal at its best and ensured that every game was tightly contested. After all of the matches were played, it was Wimborne & Holt Youth and Lilliput FC Athletic who progressed through to December’s county final.

At this early stage in the players’ development, the format certainly showcased some fantastic technical ability in both age groups. In addition, it presented an opportunity to build on players’ psychological skills, as the rapidly evolving match situation caused them to respond to changes in scoreline. This was particularly interesting to see, as it is not one of the more commonly touted benefits of futsal.

With the first event completed we now move on to the next one on Saturday 16th November at Purbeck Sports Centre to see who will be joining these teams in the final.

FA Youth Futsal Cup South Qualifier Round Update
Dorset’s second qualifying event of this season’s FA Youth Futsal Cup took place at Purbeck Sports Centre on Saturday (16 Nov), with competitions running for both the Under 10 and Under 12 Boys’ categories.

The Under 10 Boys’ were on court first, with four teams playing for the last two spots available in their category at December’s county final. As with the first qualifying event, several of the teams were taking their first steps in futsal, though this didn’t stop them from putting together some brilliant passages of play. At the end of the games, it was Broadstone FC and Brian Stock Football Academy Blues who will be taking their places at Bryanston School in this season’s county final.

With the morning’s event completed, the U12 Boys took to the court.  Another four teams faced off in their first futsal games, quickly adapting to the demands of the format and showing how dynamic the game can be.  In the end it came down to the final match to determine who would be progressing to December’s county final, with Brian Stock Football Academy’s Blue and Red teams both going forwards to take part in this event.

Now that the qualifying events are completed our attention turns to December’s finals.  Not only will the U10 and U12 Boys’ be competing but there will also be three U14 Boys’ teams vying for a spot in the Regionals. In addition, we will be holding both an Adult Male and Adult Female competition, as well as organising FA Schools Futsal Cup competitions for U13 Boys and U13 Girls.

It’s an exciting time for futsal in Dorset!
