Dorset Under 16 Match Report

Pro-Direct South & West Counties Championship Played at County Ground, Hamworthy, on 17/01/2016

Dorset Under 16 Youth 0 Berks/Bucks Under 16 Youth 0

U16’s clash ended in an entertaining goalless draw.

Dorset and Berkshire & Buckinghamshire’s U16 county sides played out a fast paced goalless draw at a bitterly cold County Ground yesterday afternoon. It wasn’t for the want of trying though, as both sides had good chances to break the deadlock in this South & West Counties Championship tie.

It was very much a game of two halves as the first shot on target was registered on the fifteen-minute mark after a cagey first quarter of the match, saw the teams battle for possession on a bobbly pitch.

The Dorset outfit were held to a couple of half chances in the first period, both falling to number 11 Billy Mitchell, after some good build up play; one involving a neatly worked free kick routine.

The best chances of the half fell to the away team, with number 8 Brendan Dyer hitting the bar from a free kick and Chris Atta firing wide from the edge of the box, after a quick passing move through the middle of the park produced the opening.

The second half started in stark contrast as Dorset had an effort scrambled off the line, only for Berks & Bucks to go down the other end and have an effort of their own stopped on the line after a smart save from Cameron Harvey.

This seemed to set the tone for the rest of the game as both sides looked to open the scoring. Dorset’s Billy Mitchell was at the heart of most of his sides attacks and was creating some good opportunities down the left, while the South East counties saw a couple of efforts slide past the posts and a close range shot from Adam Riley thwarted.

The highlights of the half though, were two acrobatic saves from the away sides keeper, Thomas Wilson, who tipped over two powerful long range drives destined for the top corner from Charlie Ryan and Tomus Garbutt. The ensuing corner from the second save also brought about a headed goal line clearance after a well-directed header from Dorset’s Marcus Holding.

An end to end second half drew to a close with the match all square and a fair result on the balance of play and chances created.

Dorset’s next game is on Sunday 7 February when they entertain Wiltshire.
