Goalkeeping in Dorset; in Safer Hands

Sunday 20 April 2008, saw Dorset County FA play host to a Goalkeeping in-service event that attracted participants from all over the South West.

National Goalkeeping Coach – Keith Rees, who works with the female England sides from Under 15 to Senior Level, and is heavily involved in coaching the goalkeepers within Everton FC’s Youth Academy (9-16 age group).

Coaches from throughout the FA Girls Centre of Excellence programme from the South West, travelled from as far as Cornwall, to join local grassroots coaches at the event, staged at the County Ground, Hamworthy.

The 26 Coaches were joined by 9 - Under 14 and Under 16 goalkeepers from Centres of Excellence’s including Dorset, Somerset, Cornwall and Bristol Rovers.

Keith led the group through an interactive session looking at the qualities and coaching of keepers at a local and National level; before moving onto the pitch where theory was put into practice.

Feedback from the event was extremely positive, with coaches and players alike united in their praise of the event and of Keith’s delivery.
