Futsal Embarks in the County

The game of Futsal arrived in the County on Thursday 22 March 2007.

Two workshops were organised by the Development Department to offer an insight to Charter Standard Schools, Clubs and Coaches Association members into the game. Originating in South America in the 1930’s, the game has thrived throughout South America and Europe, although is still relatively new to this Country.

Both sessions were delivered by FA Futsal Tutor – Kevin Barr, who gave a theoretical background to the game and associated rules, and also on the player pathway; which allows players to progress to representing the Country at European and World Championships.

The afternoon session, held at Sir David English Sports Centre, attracted 16 teachers and 6th formers from our recognised FA Charter Standard Schools.

In the evening the attention turned to coaches involved at Charter Standard Clubs and the DCFA Coaches Association, as the in-service training moved to Lytchett Minster School.

The 18 Coaches in attendance remarked on how enjoyable the workshop was, with many looking to commence Futsal specific sessions back at their Clubs:

‘I would be interested in taking futsal further. A good learning experience.’
‘I am already looking for equipment to purchase at the Club.’
‘Would like to be kept up to date with Futsal Coaching Courses in the County.’
