Dorset FA - developing football for everyone
Get Into Football

Skilling Up the 5-11 age

Wednesday 5th December 2007, saw the next instalment of the Dorset County FA in-service training programme.

The event, held at Ashdown Leisure Centre was delivered by The FA Skills Team and focussed on working within the 5-11 year groups.

The night commenced with Clare Daniels (Skills Coach) taking the coaches through a themed warm up progressing to a skills practice on control and movement. Martin Dighton (Skills Coach) then led the coaches through a session looking at differentiation within groups of players.

The final session, delivered by Mark McClements (Team Leader) was based around FUNdamentals, with Mark showing the coaches what types of different skill work could be delivered within a small space.

The theme throughout all of the sessions was on enabling players to make decisions and on developing all players within all sessions.

We were delighted that attendance was very good, with 41 coaches from a range of organisations (from Charter Standard Clubs, Schools and Coaches Association members) able to attend. Feedback from the attendees was very positive:

‘An excellent insight into developing 5-11 year olds. Well done’
‘We would be very interested in a visit to our Club, as we could learn a lot’
‘Well run, well worth the travelling’
