Dorset FA - developing football for everyone
Get Into Football

Fun in the Sun!

Football on the sand was the order of the day on Wednesday 22 July 2009 at Weymouth beach.

The event organised by Dorset County FA in partnership with Weymouth & Portland Borough Council, was aimed at offering young people an alternative format of the game, whilst utilising the idyllic surroundings in which we live!

Over 100 players aged Under 12 from 11 different teams from throughout Dorset competed in the tournament. All teams played 4v4 in a round robin competition, culminating in Winton Youth FC being crowned overall winners.

Feedback from players, parents/guardians, coaches, and spectators was all extremely positive:
‘What a great day, well organised, the boys had a great time and it was different.’ Branksome United Youth FC
‘Want to say thank you for a great day out!’ Boscombe Albion Youth FC
'Wanted to pass on our thanks to all those involved in organising and running the tournament. It was a fine example of how football should be - all of the teams very sporting; was a great way to finish the Season.' Sturminster Marshall FC parent

This was the first time an event such as this had taken place in Weymouth; it is hoped that it will expand and become an annual fixture in the football calendar!
