Becoming a Referee

Everyone involved with football will know that there is a specific shortage of referees in the game and with only 3.6% of the total registered referees being female we need to encourage more women to take up the whistle.

The FA women and girl’s football development strategy 2008-12 highlights the need to develop a clear pathway for referees to officiate only in women’s football, as currently, to be promoted, male and female match officials must referee men’s football. This clear pathway will open up the doors to allow female referees to have the opportunity to be nominated for FIFA assistant and referees’ lists, without officiating in the men’s game.

If you would like to be one of the 400 new female referees recruited and trained by 2012 and would like to discuss the opportunities available in Dorset please contact our referee development officer Kevin Pike on 01202 688270 or email kevin.pike@dorsetfa.com
