The FA Tesco Skills Programme in Dorset

In June 2007 The Football Association and Tesco launched The FA Tesco Skills Programme. Through our practices and coaching methods we committed to helping 1million young players aged 5-11years be the best they can and enjoy the national game.

Initially funding was in place for three years but the continuing success of the programme both locally and at a national level – 1.7 million children coached thus far – means funding has now been secured for another 4 years.

The programme has been expanded so that there are now 106 specialist skills coaches who deliver age appropriate practices with the focus of raising technical standards in children aged 5-11years whilst also encouraging more active and healthy lifestyles.

The four full-time Skills Coaches in Dorset operate in a variety of work areas to try and achieve this aim, working within schools, Charter Standard clubs, at Holiday Courses and FA Skills Centres.

For further information and reaction to our work within each strand of the Skills Programme please click on the relevant Tab. Detailed within each area is what work within that particular strand entails and how to become involved.

Alongside the aim of raising the standard of play amongst our participants a further aim is to also help develop those involved with football delivery. As such the Tabs titled Article and Session of the month are a resource for those wishing to expand their knowledge of player/football development or some practical ideas on how, why and what to coach.
