FA Skills Programme in Dorset

In June 2007 The Football Association and Tesco launched The FA Tesco Skills Programme. The far-reaching programme is aimed to give youngsters up and down the country the opportunity to get active and have fun whilst improving their football skills.

The three-year programme, co-ordinated by The Football Association and funded by Tesco and The National Sports Foundation, aims to give over one million children in England top-quality skills coaching by Summer 2010 and Dorset is one of the 16 counties selected to benefit from the scheme.

A total of 90 specialist Skills Coaches across the country will focus on raising technical standards at the 5-11 age group, when ball skills are ingrained.

The Skills Programme is committed to help young players to be the best they can and get more enjoyment from our national game. The Programme encourages more active and healthy lifestyles and in the long term to produce more top-quality players to improve the future of football in England.

Dorset County FA has recruited four full-time Skills Coaches, who have completed an extensive skills coaching course. The Skills Coaches are putting on sessions in schools and Charter Standard clubs, as well as after-school and holiday Skills Centres, so that youngsters can be inspired to get active and maximise their ability, whatever their level.

All 5-11 year olds can now sign up to the Skills Website at www.TheFA.com/skills to join ‘the greatest club in England!’ On registering, youngsters can watch coaching videos, download skills challenges and get specialist advice and encouragement. The Skills Website is also a useful tool for Parents, Teachers and Coaches giving details of the programme with teaching and coaching ideas and games to download.
