Whats been going on in Disability Football in Dorset?

Disability Development Centre
Dorset County FA are establishing a Disability Development Centre to offer high quality coaching to talent disabled players from across the county in under-18 and under-14 squads. The centre will be based at Thomas Hardye Leisure Centre, Dorchester with trials taking place on 1st and 8th October 2010. This is a fantastic opportunity for the county and these players to play with other ‘elite’ players and against players from other counties.

South West Cerebral Palsy Squad
The regional squad, based at Castle Sports Centre in Taunton, is delivered by Plymouth Argyle FiTC and hosted by Dorset County FA. The trials were held on 17 July 2010 with the coaching sessions commencing on 14 August 2010. Three local players; James, Scott and Budgie who all play for Dexter Sports Ability Counts have invited to Taunton to join the squad and are working hard in preparation for a series of matches against other regions.

England Under-18 Learning Disability Trials
Dorset County FA will be hosting the regional trials for this year’s England Under-18 Learning Disability Development Squad. The trials will take place on Saturday 2nd October 2010 at Thomas Hardye Leisure Centre, Dorchester where players will assessed by regional disability staff and scouts and have the opportunity to be invited to a national trial and even to represent their country!

Local Success in ‘Grow the Game’
The Football Foundation’s Grow the Game scheme recently announced its successful applicants with Dorchester Middle School and Wareham Rangers Youth FC both receiving funding to support the development of new disability football teams over the next two years.

Dorset Coaches ‘Sign’ the way forward!
Sixteen coaches from across Dorset (and beyond) gained a fantastic insight into the world of deaf football when undertaking the ‘British Sign Language for Football’ course held at Dorset County Football Association on Saturday 6th February 2010. The course was written and delivered by local communication support agency ‘Sign It!’ and provided some generic deaf awareness training and best practice in addition to basic communication skills in British Sign Language and football specific terminology.
