Whats been going on in Disability Football in Dorset?

 

Local Star Supports Deaf Football

The local DDCS Deaf Football group were treated as Stephanie Herbert who represented England Women's Deaf team at the 2008 World CHampionships attended their last training session. Stephanie brought along her bronze medal and England cap to show the groups, spoke about her experiences of representing her country and gave the group the chance to ask her some questions before staying to support the remainder of the session.

 

Weymouth College fly the Dorset flag. . .

Wednesday 2nd December 2009 saw 10 colleges from across the region competing in the South West BCS Championships. Weymouth College were the only representatives from Dorset and having finished 2nd in their qualifying league ended up in the final only being beaten during the day by the eventual winners South Devon College.

 

Verwood Town FC support Wheelchair Football in the community.

Verwood Town are working with the Dorset FA Disability Development Officer Todd Govan, to help establish a Wheelchair Football Club in the local community. Todd has established training sessions running every Friday afternoon (6.00-7.00) at the Verwood Leisure Centre and is working hard to obtain the correct equipment and support required. Deaf Friendly Football comes to Dorset.

Dorchester Town Youth FC have become the first 'Deaf Friendly Football Club' in Dorset. The Charter Standard Community Club have signed up to the Natioanl Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) Deaf Friendly Football Club pledge, a ground-breaking project designed to make football opportunities more accessible and equal playing/coaching opportunites for deaf people.
