What is the Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Football?

This award replaced the FA Coaching Licence in 2001 and is the award that develops your ability to coach youth/senior players. Successful completion will lead to UEFA ‘B’ certification.

How has the award changed?

The L3CCF has been developed in partnership with the Football Association and is one of a number of coaching qualifications awarded by 1st4sport Qualifications. It is now on the National Qualifications Framework, and whilst the majority of the course content is similar to the old coaching licence a major difference is that the final assessment (more about this later) is now undertaken by someone who did not tutor on the original course.

Is it the right course for me?

You should be a qualified Level 2 or Coaching Certificate coach looking to improve your coaching skills. You should be working on a regular basis with youth/senior players.

Will it take up much of my time?

The initial course is over six days. There are additional sessions (usually evenings) which will cover Emergency First Aid and Child Protection and Best Practice.
Additional days for your further development are also included. You will also be required to undertake a minimum of fourteen hours verified coaching with a youth/senior team aged 16+, together with various post course practical and theoretical tasks. Finally two days are required for your final assessment.

What will I learn on the course?

It is an extremely enjoyable course, your tutor will assist you to gain knowledge in the following areas:

o Attitude and Ethics
o Learning Strategies and Coaching Styles
o Planning, preparing and evaluating coaching sessions
o Football Fitness
o Match Analysis
o Child Protection
o Physchology
o Nutrition
o Technical Syllabus to include 8 v 8, phases of play and functional practices
o What does the assessment involve?

The assessment of the L3CCF is divided into two parts:

o The internal assessment is conducted by your tutor during the course and will include delivery of two short coaching sessions and the completion of three set tasks. You will receive plenty of feedback during the course, this will prepare you for the next part.
o The external assessment is conducted by an assessor who has had no input into your training. This will include the delivery of two planned coaching sessions, one a 8 v 8 or functional practice, the other a phase of play (each lasting 25 minutes) and checking that all post course tasks have been completed. A short, individual oral interview will be held along with an agreed action plan.

Is there any practical work involved?

Yes! Naturally the tutor will need players to demonstrate various skills and practices. Whilst non-participation would not bar anyone from enrolling on the course, we do need some people with a willingness to contribute practically. You will need appropriate playing kit. Your attention is drawn to the declaration on the application form.

Is there a lot of paperwork involved?

A fair amount, although the tutor/staff will give you every support. However if you feel that this might be a problem for you please contact the course organiser as extra support can be put in place to give you every assistance to complete the award. Further information is also on the application form.

How much is it going to cost?

The cost of this course has been set at £380 (£350 for members of Dorset FA Coaches Association or Dorset affiliated Charter Standard Clubs), this includes a comprehensive resource pack This amount also includes all tuition and final assessment fees.
